Here is how I did it!
Put the cream in your mixer(or if you want to be really resourceful you can shake it in a jar... I like the lazy way better) and let it stand for a bit to come up to room temperature.
Next turn your mixer on high and let it whip as if you were making whipped cream
After it goes passed the whipped cream stage it starts to turn into curds. At this point I turned down my mixer to about medium. The butter then starts to separate from the buttermilk.

Next you have to wash your butter to remove any remaining buttermilk. You do this by adding cold water to your butter and running the mixer. You may need to do this several times until the water is really clean.
Next you press your butter. I was a little unsure of this step so I just kept pressing it until I didn't see any more water in it. I left my butter unsalted but you can add salt at this point or any other flavorings you might want. Voila! Butter! Wrap it up and put it in the fridge or freezer.
omg, I can't believe you made butter.
ReplyDeleteI want to too now!
I am thinking one of the kids can lend you their bike helmet and soccer cleats and perhaps some elbow and knee pads. That would be some mighty fine milking gear. You would be stylin'
